A life vest isn't merely a box to tick; it's your essential frontline on the water. Regardless of your experience level, a life vest can be the critical factor for survival. Its simple use can prevent serious accidents, protecting you, your loved ones, and everyone on board.

It's The Law!

Federal law mandates that all recreational boats carry at least one life jacket or personal flotation device (PFD) for each person on board. Furthermore, anyone 13 years old and under must wear a life vest at all times while the boat is underway. All PFDs must meet US Coast Guard requirements.

Operators and passengers of personal watercraft (PWCs) such as Jet Skis are required to wear a life vest at all times.

Statistics Prove It

According to the US Coast Guard's 2018 Recreational Boating Statistics, there were 4,145 accidents, 2,511 injuries, and 633 deaths reported. Crucially, 77% of these deaths were due to drowning, and 84% of those drowning victims were not wearing a life jacket.

Accidents can happen unexpectedly, and cold water can rapidly shock your system. Even if you're an experienced boater or swimmer, situations can change in an instant. To prevent fatal outcomes, wearing a life jacket is the simplest and most effective measure. Life jackets improve visibility, protect children, and are especially vital in rough conditions or when alcohol is involved. Simply having a life jacket nearby isn't enough—you need to wear it. Doing so sets a good example, ensures compliance with safety laws, and most importantly, it can save your life.
